Gemstone Consultancy:
Offering Face-to-Face and Online Therapy

My name is Gemma Mason and I have worked as a therapist for over twenty years.  I provide psychotherapy to individuals and groups, working from my practice in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.  I am trained to work with children over the age of 7 up to adults of any age.

I am also a UKCP/BACP qualified supervisor for therapists at various stages of their career and other health professionals.

I also provide training in a variety of psychological courses from basic listening skills, bespoke courses and psychotherapy training.

Therapy is often accessed in a time of crisis. However, it can be a springboard to exploring your current life situation. Consequently you will be able to make changes which will enhance your psychological well being.

Therapy

There are periods in life when difficulties or certain experiences can lead to emotional distress.  At times like these, it’s common to feel sad, anxious, afraid, hurt, abandoned, or simply overwhelmed by everything happening around us.

If you’re in Trowbridge, Wiltshire, or the surrounding area and would like to visit me face-to-face, or if you are the otherside of the world and would prefer online therapy, we can make it work, so I can assist you and help with any type of therapy you may need to allow you to live a full and rewarding life.

I work with a variety of issues including:

  • Relationships – Either to enhance or at a time of crisis
  • Trauma – Rescent or Historical
  • Career Related Stress
  • Anxiety and Depression

  • Living with a Disability

Some FAQs About Counselling To Help You

What Happens In My First Counselling Session?

After your initial telephone or Zoom consultation, we will meet for a first session where we complete some introductory paperwork and begin exploring what you’d like to focus on. This first meeting helps us clarify your goals, understand your needs, and start building a supportive working relationship. Whether you’re based locally in Wiltshire, elsewhere in the UK or even overseas, this session sets the foundation for your ongoing therapy or wellbeing journey.

Each session lasts for fifty minutes and usually takes place weekly. The sessional rate is £60–£65 per session, reflecting the professional time and care dedicated to your wellbeing. A limited number of low‑cost sessions are available to make therapy more accessible — please ask if these spaces are currently open.

Sessions are offered in person in Wiltshire or online across the UK, providing flexibility for clients wherever they’re based.

Therapy is usually a confidential space for you alone, so it’s not traditional to bring someone else into your sessions. If you are a young person, a parent or caregiver may attend the initial session to help you feel comfortable and supported as we begin working together.

If having someone with you is an important part of starting therapy, please contact me so we can discuss what feels appropriate for your situation. I offer sessions in person in Wiltshire and online across the UK, and I’m happy to explore what will help you feel safe, grounded, and ready to begin.

This is a difficult question to answer without meeting you, because everyone’s experiences and needs are unique. It’s important to recognise that challenging feelings in the present can sometimes be connected to earlier life experiences, including trauma from childhood. As we begin working together, we explore these patterns gently and at a pace that feels safe for you.

I offer regular reviews throughout your therapy so you have dedicated time to reflect on how the work is progressing, what feels helpful, and what you may want to focus on next. These reviews support a collaborative, transparent therapeutic process.

Sessions are available in person in Wiltshire and online across the UK, giving you flexibility in how you access support.

Experience shows that meeting at the same time each week provides the consistency and structure needed for meaningful therapeutic change. A regular session time helps create a safe, predictable rhythm, allowing you to settle into the work and build momentum in your therapy.

If you are planning holidays or know you will be away, please let me know in advance so we can manage your sessions smoothly. I offer appointments in person in Wiltshire and online across the UK, giving you flexibility while maintaining a stable weekly routine.

You are welcome to attend therapy monthly or fortnightly, but it’s important to know that progress will usually take longer. Experience shows that weekly sessions provide the consistency and momentum needed for therapeutic change, which is why weekly appointments are recommended whenever possible.

I also have very limited spaces for fortnightly or monthly sessions, so these appointments may not always be available. If you are considering less frequent sessions, please let me know so we can discuss what might work best for your needs.

This can be a difficult question to answer, but what often helps is the confidential, non‑judgemental space I offer — and the fact that we do not have a previous relationship. Because I come to your experiences without assumptions or history, you have room to speak openly, explore difficult feelings, and reflect without fear of judgement. Many people find that this neutrality creates a safe foundation for therapeutic change.

As therapy progresses, many people find themselves thinking less about the issue that first brought them to therapy and gradually returning to activities they may have stopped doing. It’s also completely normal to arrive at a session unsure of what to talk about and leave having discovered a new insight. This unfolding process is part of how therapeutic change happens — gently, consistently, and often in ways you don’t notice straight away.
